CRYSTAL "XPERIENCE J" JUDKINS

Crystal Judkins is a lifelong storyteller who has always worked in multiple dimensions — writer, creative director, audio drama producer, and award-winning sound designer. She writes stories that are fictional by format and true by necessity. Black women are her nucleus: yes, even the complex, dark, imperfect ones the screen has never known what to do with.

As founder of Shhh! Jus' Listen Media and co-founder of Black Audio Dramas Exist (BADE), she has spent nearly a decade crafting original audio dramas, directing premium full-cast productions, and developing genre-defining narrative IP that centers Black voices and refuses to be ordinary.

A former Creative Director at GraphicAudio, she led productions including The Book of Azrael — the #1 Fantasy Dramatization on Audible. Her original series KISS has amassed 30,000+ listeners, and her work spans Webby Award honors, Communicator Award wins, and LA WebFest nominations.

Voice: Smooth, grounded. Laid-back with an undercurrent of danger. Medium to low register.

"If somebody wants to come for you, they gotta go through me. That's how this works."(Calm, steady, protective)

"You knew who I was when you met me. Now you mad I'm doing what it takes to keep you breathing?"(Hurt but composed)

"You picked the wrong team. You come near her again, I promise you don't get a second warning."(Low, dangerous)

Captain Suarez

40s–50s · Latinx/Hispanic — Lance's homicide captain, D.C. Metro Police. Pragmatic, overworked, done with everybody's drama. Career cop who's traded idealism for survival.

Voice: Tired, clipped, authoritative. Dry edge, minimal patience. Every sentence sounds like it's interrupting something more important.

"You got dropped in my lap 'cause some councilman liked your numbers. I didn't ask for you, Brown."(Tired, clipped, no-nonsense)

"You either put Christopher Thomas on her, or you hand this to somebody who will."(Pressuring Lance)

"You want justice. City Hall wants closure. Learn the difference if you plan on staying in my squad room."(Dry, done with everyone)

Donald London

40s · Any ethnicity — Lance's old associate. Former partner in crime. Petty, manipulative, obsessed with pulling Lance back into the mud. Weaponizes shared history.

Voice: Fast-talking hustler. Natural salesman energy with a chip on his shoulder. Snaps from smug to rattled when control slips.

"Pipeline runs clean through City Hall. Contractors, permits, all that red tape people pay to cut."(Smug, sales pitch energy)

"You left Simone to bleed out like she didn't ride for you. But now you wanna look at me like I'm the dirty one?"(Taunting)

"You really think you hold the cards here, Brown? You fall, I'm dragging your halo right into the mud with me."(Rattled but fronting)

Brandon

Late 20s–Early 30s · Black Man — Mishon's partner. Member of the original friend group. Funny, loyal, and sometimes messy. Will roast you and check on you in the same breath.

Voice: Easygoing, jokey. DMV / PG County / city Black dude energy. Great with banter, able to drop into real concern.

"Look at y'all, acting like you ain't never been nowhere before. This just a condo, not the pearly gates."(Playful, roasting Mishon with love)

"Tomorrow with a compliment? Yeah, I'mma hold onto that forever. Lemme write today's date down real quick."(Jokey, to Tomorrow)

"You been off lately, T. I clown, yeah, but I'm not blind. You good, or you just saying you good?"(Concern creeping through the jokes)

Legacy

Late 20s–Early 30s · Black Woman — Mishon and Tomorrow's friend. Professional pot-stirrer. Nosy, bossy, always in everybody's business while dodging her own.

Voice: Higher energy, talkative, a little shrill when worked up. Messy friend who stays in the group chat. Excellent with side comments, sighs, and petty little jabs.

"So we all just gon' pretend we don't see you acting funny? I'm asking 'cause I care… but also 'cause I'm nosy."(Nosy, messy, low-key whiny)

"Uh-uh, don't hit me with that 'I'm fine.' Last time you said that, you disappeared for three days."(Bossy friend energy)

"I swear, you stay moving like you in some Lifetime movie and then get mad when I ask questions."(Petty, half-joking)

Quan

Late 20s–30s · Black Man — Security guard. Predator masking as a regular dude. Will not take no for an answer. Controlling, entitled, comfortable crossing lines.

Voice: DMV energy. Casual, hood-adjacent. Charm slides into sharp, mocking, threatening when he doesn't get what he wants. Must navigate "harmless" to menacing with unsettling ease.

"Why you acting brand new? I done bought you a drink, we vibin', and now you shy? Stop frontin'."(DMV hood-adjacent, playful but pushing)

"See, that's that cute shit y'all do. Flirt all night, then talk 'bout 'I'm tired.' Nah, don't waste my time."(Tone flips, entitled)

"I'm just sayin', it's real rude to walk away mid-conversation. I don't like rude. Rude make me lose my patience."(Quiet threat under a smile)
